Only ‘Madman’ Will Vote for Tinubu, Says Amaechi
Vice Presidential Candidate of African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rotimi Amaechi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, declaring that Nigerians who re-elect him in 2027 would be acting irrationally.
Amaechi, who spoke on Thursday at a town hall meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State, urged Nigerians to reject Tinubu in the next presidential election, citing worsening economic hardship under the administration.
“I read on social media that it is in 2027 that we will know how many madmen we have in Nigeria. It is only a madman that can vote for Tinubu,” he said.
“If you are not mad, then Tinubu should not win here,” the former Rivers State governor added.

Amaechi accused supporters of the president of being driven by personal interests rather than the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
He also faulted the removal of the petrol subsidy, rejecting the administration’s portrayal of the policy as a courageous decision.
According to him, Tinubu had acknowledged that he was advised against removing the subsidy but went ahead with the decision.
“There is a difference between courage and recklessness. Tinubu wasn’t courageous; he was reckless,” Amaechi said.
Amaechi lamented the rising cost of living, saying many households were struggling to afford basic necessities, including food.
“People are not able to feed. Things are difficult,” he said, blaming the administration’s economic policies for the difficulties confronting Nigerians.
Amaechi also criticised the state of the country’s energy sector, arguing that Nigeria had failed to harness its abundant natural resources to stimulate industrialisation and economic growth.
He noted that the South-South region, in particular, was richly endowed with crude oil and natural gas but had yet to translate the resources into sustainable prosperity for citizens.
The ADC chieftain argued that Nigeria’s economic recovery required policies that would encourage domestic production, strengthen local industries and reduce pressure on consumers and businesses.
He said the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would introduce a production subsidy to boost local manufacturing and ease economic pressures if elected president in 2027.
Amaechi’s remarks add to the growing political criticism of Tinubu’s economic reforms ahead of the 2027 general election, with the opposition focusing on the impact of subsidy removal and the cost-of-living crisis.
