Fuel price: Resign, Go Back to School – SDP’s Adebayo Tells Tinubu, Team
Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has urged President Bola Tinubu and members of his administration to resign and go back to school to properly learn economics.
Adebayo made the call on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
His comments came in reaction to the Federal Government’s announcement of a 30-day discount on petrol sold by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Taiwo Oyedele had earlier disclosed that the government was offering the temporary discount on petrol dispensed at NNPCL stations.Responding to the move, Adebayo said:
“If I were in their shoes, I would resign and go back to school and learn economics properly, so that I don’t cause harm to the government and to the people.”
He likened the policy to chaos, stating: “President Tinubu’s fuel discount reminds me of Fuji House of Commotion. What they’re presenting is Tinubu’s house of commotion. It doesn’t make any sense.”
Adebayo further criticised the manner in which the discount was announced. He noted that officials at the press conference did not represent the NNPCL, which he described as a government agency with its own management structure.
“There’s no account in the Ministry of Finance that deals with fuel discounts. One month is not even short-term. It’s a flash in the pan,” he added.
He also pointed out that the government had not cited any legal authority for the discount, concluding that the administration appeared confused.
