Dangote announces fresh plan for Nigeria, Kenya oil sector

The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has disclosed that the company’s Vision 2030 includes plans to double the capacity of the Dangote Refinery to 1.4 million barrels per day and construct a refinery in Kenya.

Dangote made this known in an interview with News Central on Tuesday.

The billionaire businessman said he was initially unaware of the scale of the challenge he was taking on when he embarked on the construction of the refinery, admitting that he never prayed for such a project.

Dangote said the experience, however, had helped him overcome his fears about building and operating a mega refinery.

Vision 2030 targets expansion

According to Dangote, the company’s plans for 2030 extend beyond the expansion of its Nigerian refinery.

He said the proposed Kenyan refinery would form part of the group’s long-term strategy, while the capacity of the Nigerian facility would be increased from its current level to 1.4 million barrels per day.

“So now that fear has actually gone. Kenya’s refinery is part of our Vision 2030, and we will double the refinery in Nigeria to 1.4 million barrels per day,” he said.

The planned expansion would significantly increase the refinery’s processing capacity and further strengthen the group’s presence in the African energy sector.

Dangote Refinery IPO

The disclosure comes as Dangote Refinery continues its transition into a publicly listed company.

On September 14, 2026, the refinery’s Initial Public Offering officially commenced on the Nigerian Exchange Limited, with the shares priced at ₦525 per unit.

The IPO marks another major development for the refinery, which has become one of the group’s major investments in Nigeria.

Dangote’s latest disclosure indicates that the company is looking beyond its existing operations, with plans to expand the Nigerian refinery and establish a new refining facility in Kenya as part of its Vision 2030 strategy.
