Nigeria has reaffirmed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Jamaica as the new High Commissioner to the Caribbean country, Dr. Jane Bassey Adams, has presented her Letters of Credence to Jamaica’s Governor-General, Sir Patrick Linton Allen.

Adams presented the credentials during a ceremony at King’s House in Kingston, Jamaica, recently, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.

During the ceremony, the envoy conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Governor-General, the Jamaican government and people.

Adams described the presentation as a significant milestone in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, citing the longstanding historical, cultural and ancestral ties between the two countries.

She said Nigeria was committed to translating the strong bonds between both nations into practical and mutually beneficial partnerships, particularly in trade and investment, healthcare, culture, technology, tourism and education.

The High Commissioner said her mission would work closely with the Jamaican authorities and other stakeholders to identify new areas of cooperation while strengthening existing partnerships.

She also unveiled a vision of “A New Dawn” in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, with emphasis on revitalising bilateral engagement and converting the countries’ shared cultural and historical affinity into tangible economic and developmental gains.

Nigeria and Jamaica have maintained longstanding cordial relations, with cooperation spanning tourism, education, sports and cultural exchanges.

The two countries also collaborate at multilateral forums, including the Commonwealth and the United Nations, where they pursue shared interests on issues including international peace and security as well as sustainable development.
