TVC, NTA, THISDAY Shine: NCDMB Gives N3m Cash Prize To Niger Delta’s Best Energy Reporters At Bayelsa@30 Awards

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has honoured three journalists for outstanding reporting on the economy and oil and gas sector in the Niger Delta at the 13th edition of the Bayelsa Media Awards (BMA), held in Yenagoa.
Tife Owolabi, PhD, also emerged winner of the Best Documentary of the Year award for “The KEFFESO Story: Development Beyond Oil,” a documentary highlighting grassroots development and the impact of the Host Community Development Trust framework under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
The event, which also commemorated the 30th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State, attracted entries and nominations from across the Niger Delta, including Rivers, Cross River, Imo and Akwa Ibom states.
The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, FNSE, represented by the Board’s Manager of Government Relations, Mr. Teddy Bai, reaffirmed the Board’s longstanding partnership with the media and acknowledged its role in promoting accountability, shaping public discourse and communicating development initiatives.
Ogbe, who participated as a panelist, highlighted the media’s contribution to the establishment, growth and visibility of the Board. He also reaffirmed NCDMB’s commitment to initiatives that promote journalistic excellence and commended the organisers of the Bayelsa Media Awards for their contributions to the media industry.

The three NCDMB-sponsored award categories recognised outstanding reporting on the economy and oil and gas industry in the Niger Delta. Each winner received a cash prize of ₦1 million and a brand-new laptop.
The winners were Joseph Kunde of TVC, Yenagoa, who received the NCDMB Prize for Niger Delta Region’s Report on Economy; Ebitimi Zitimiyola of NTA, Yenagoa, who won the NCDMB Prize for Niger Delta Region’s Oil and Gas Broadcast Reporter of the Year; and Blessing Ibunge of ThisDay Newspaper, Port Harcourt, who emerged winner of the NCDMB Prize for Niger Delta Region’s Oil and Gas Print Reporter of the Year.
Owolabi’s documentary award recognises the use of documentary filmmaking to tell development stories, document community-level interventions and promote public understanding of host community development initiatives in the Niger Delta.
The 13th edition of the Bayelsa Media Awards celebrated excellence in journalism, broadcasting, print reporting and documentary production across the region.
