The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtaining five credits in english language and mathematics.

Dantani Wushishi, NECO registrar, announced the results at a press conference in Minna, Niger state, on Thursday — nearly 63 days after the last paper of the examination was written.

Wushishi said 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 candidates sat for the exercise, which commenced on June 15 and ended on July 23, 2026.

He disclosed that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, obtained five credits and above irrespective of their performance in english language and mathematics.

The 2026 result records 2.64 percent drop in pass rate when compared with the 818,492 candidates representing 60.26 percent that obtained five credits and above, including english and mathematics in the 2025 examination.

The NECO registrar said the 2026 examination recorded a 64.74 per cent drop in malpractice cases, with 1,406 candidates involved compared with 3,878 candidates in the previous year.

Wushishi thanked President Bola Tinubu for reappointing him for a second tenure and Tunji Alausa, minister of education, for the confidence reposed in his leadership.

He also commended security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), for their vigilance, presence and support during the examination.

He said the agencies helped reinforce discipline, deter wrongdoing and protect the integrity of the examination.

Wushishi reassured stakeholders and the public that NECO would remain committed to its mandate and continue to uphold the integrity of its examinations.

How To Check Result With Your Phone

Step 1: Visit the NECO result portal

Open the browser on your phone and visit the official NECO result-checking portal:

results.neco.gov.ng

Step 2: Select the examination year

Once the portal opens, select 2026 as the examination year.

You will also be required to select the appropriate examination type, such as SSCE Internal, depending on the examination you took.

Step 3: Enter your result-checking token

Enter your NECO Result Checking Token in the space provided.

Candidates who do not have a token can purchase one through the official NECO result portal by following the payment instructions.

Step 4: Enter your registration number

Carefully enter your NECO registration number and check the details to ensure there are no errors.

Step 5: Check your result

After entering the required information, click “Check Result.”

Your 2026 NECO result should appear on the screen if the details provided are correct.
