PDP to conduct fresh Gombe governorship primary after court nullifies earlier exercise

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it will conduct a fresh governorship primary in Gombe State after a Federal High Court sitting in Gombe nullified the earlier exercise.

The court’s decision has reopened the race for the party’s 2027 governorship ticket, with the previous primary now set aside.

Reacting to the judgment on Thursday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the party would obey the court’s directive.

The PDP said it respected the rule of law and the authority of the judiciary and would comply with the court’s decision.

“We will carefully study the judgment and take the necessary steps to comply with the court’s order. The fresh primary will be conducted in line with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines and the applicable laws of the country,” Mohammed said.

“The Party remains firmly committed to the principles of internal democracy, due process, fairness and strict adherence to its constitution, electoral guidelines and the applicable laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

The party said it had begun preparations for another governorship primary but did not announce a date for the exercise.

Mohammed said the party would begin the necessary arrangements for a fresh governorship primary in Gombe State in line with the court’s judgment.

According to him, the date, timetable and other details of the fresh primary would be communicated to aspirants, stakeholders, party members and the public after the necessary arrangements had been completed.

The PDP also urged its members and supporters in Gombe State to remain calm, law-abiding and united as it works to implement the court’s judgment.
