Police arrest two suspects for m8rder of Senegalese goalkeeper in Ghana

The Ghana Police Service, through a sustained intelligence led operation, has arrested two key suspects in connection with the kidnapping and m8rder of Cheikh Toure, an 18-year-old Senegalese goalkeeper, in Kumasi in October 2025.

The police confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

According to the statement, on 16th October 2025, some persons who claimed to be brothers of the deceased goalkeeper sent him to the Manhyia Hospital with several abdominal injuries, alleging that the victim had been involved in an accident.

The victim was, however, pronounced d3ad on arrival.

The suspects then deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo, Kumasi, and absconded.

The suspects, Salifu Walid, a 32 year old Nigerien, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, a 24 year old Burkinabe, were arrested on 20th September 2026 at their hideout at Banpanase near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects are members of a four member group suspected to have masterminded the kidnapping and m8rder of Cheikh Toure.

The group posed as football scout agents and used online networks to lure unsuspecting victims into the country.

During interrogation, the two suspects admitted their involvement in the crime and provided information on their respective roles in luring the deceased into the country as part of an alleged scheme to defraud him.

Efforts have been intensified to arrest suspects Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry, who are currently on the run and are believed to have played a central role in the group’s activities.

The two suspects are currently in Police custody and will be processed for court.
