2027: I Have No Fear Of Tinubu Losing FCT, Says Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he has no fear of President Bola Tinubu losing the FCT in the 2027 presidential election, citing ongoing infrastructure projects as evidence of the administration’s performance.

Wike made the statement on Thursday after inspecting the ongoing Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa road projects, which he described as part of Tinubu’s campaign for the 2027 election.

“This is the campaign. The people who will come, what will they come with? They will tell them stories, but we have not come with stories. We have come with facts, verifiable facts. We told them we will do this one, we have done it. We told them we will do the other one and we will do it,” Wike said.

The minister said the administration had moved beyond promises by delivering projects that residents could see, particularly in satellite towns that had previously received less attention than Abuja city centre.

He said the administration’s approach had shifted FCT infrastructure development from the city centre to satellite communities.

“The Renewed Hope administration has redefined infrastructure delivery as far as FCT is concerned, not just within the city, but also within the satellite towns,” Wike said.

Wike also said residents’ response to the projects showed that government performance could be demonstrated through completed infrastructure.

“If indeed good governance is a barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear,” the minister said.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s electoral prospects in the FCT, saying the administration’s infrastructure projects had given him no reason to fear the outcome of the 2027 election.

“I can beat my chest, I can close my eyes and go home and sleep with my two eyes closed, that Tinubu will emerge, and those candidates, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda and Gabaya that they will win this election. I have no fear at all,” he said.

On the projects inspected, Wike said the Apo-Karshi Road, which was originally awarded in 2010, would be handed over by November after the FCT Administration revoked the previous contract and re-awarded it to SCC.

He said SCC had also committed to delivering the Bwari-Kubwa Road by December 30, adding that construction activity was expected to intensify from the first week of October as the rains subside.

Wike said the FCT Administration would also inspect the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road to ensure its completion before the end of the year.

He said the administration had initially targeted the commissioning of 10 projects but expected the number to exceed that figure.
