Kano: Gunmen murder popular journalist inside residence

A popular social media political commentator and journalist Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, has been found dead in a pool of his blood at his residence in Kano.

Dan Shagamu, was said to have been overpowered by his killers who attacked him at his residence before they brutally slaughtered him to death.

His niece, simply identified as Rabi, confirmed to newssmen that her uncle was brutally murdered and his body mutilated as a result of the several cuts he received from the killers.

She added that prior to his death, he had received anonymous death threats severally which even led him to changing his residence.

“He was killed since on Monday but it was later on Tuesday that his dead body was discovered.

“Meanwhile, two people have been arrested by the police in connection to the murder,” she stated.

He lives in Gaida community of Kumbotso local government area, which is a part of Kano metropolis and had worked with Pyramid Radio and NTA in the past, Blueprint.ng reports.

The Amnesty International has since strongly condmned the brutal murder of the journalist while calling on the authorities to investigate the incidence and ensure that those responsible are brought to book.

“Amnesty International strongly condemns the killing of a social media political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu whose body was found today in a pool of blood at his home in Kano. He was brutally slaughtered after being overpowered by his killers.

“The Nigerian authorities must investigate this incident and ensure that those suspected of responsibility are brought to justice.

“As the elections approach, we continue to receive disturbing reports of politically related threats to life and intimidation,” the Amnesty International stated.

Meanwhile, as at press time, all efforts to get the Nigeria Police to comment on the incident have proved abortive as they did not respond to calls and messages.
