Osun governor Adeleke goes to Europe on vacation

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has travelled out of Nigeria to Europe for a vacation following the conclusion of the state’s governorship election.

A statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the governor travelled to Europe for a short break but did not disclose the duration of his absence from the state.

Rasheed added that Adeleke would use the trip to undergo medical checks in the United Kingdom and visit other destinations, which would be announced later.

“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” the governor was quoted as saying.

Adeleke orders probe into Koka Ilase kingship crisis

Meanwhile, Adeleke has directed an investigation into the ongoing kingship crisis in Koka Ilase following reports that another monarch had been appointed in the community.

The governor directed the Osun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment and determine whether the development complies with existing laws.

He also instructed the ministry to review the situation and ensure that all actions relating to the traditional institution are in accordance with relevant chieftaincy laws, regulations and the traditions of the people.

Adeleke said he was concerned by reports that another king had been appointed while an existing monarch was already occupying the stool.

“I read of another king appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight,” he said.

Governor urges stakeholders to remain peaceful

The governor urged all stakeholders involved in the dispute to remain calm and avoid actions that could further escalate tension in the community while the government conducts its investigation.

“I, however, urge all stakeholders to remain peaceful as the ministry does the needful. Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations, and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” Adeleke said.

The governor’s directive is expected to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment of another monarch and help resolve the dispute in accordance with the applicable laws and traditional practices.

Adeleke’s trip comes shortly after the conclusion of the governorship election in the state, while his administration is expected to continue handling ongoing government affairs during his absence.
