Lagos police probe viral video of physical clash between officers and youths in Surulere

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video capturing a physical confrontation between law enforcement officers and a grou of young men in the Surulere area of the state.

The video, which circulated widely across social media platforms on Saturday, September 5, 2026, shows a tense altercation. While the events leading up to the incident remain unclear, the footage depicts a young man and a police officer tightly gripping each other’s shirts during a physical shoving match.

Reacting to the development via the command’s official X handle, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that an inquiry is underway. Adebisi explicitly called on the individuals involved in the video to come forward to assist authorities.

“The Command has seen the video currently in circulation and has immediately commenced an investigation into the incident,” Adebisi stated.

The individuals featured in the video are hereby urged to report to the office of the Police Public Relations Officer at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, on Monday, at 11:00 a.m., to assist with the investigation and provide necessary clarification.”
