The Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II, has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, to play by the rules as he campaigns for the 2027 general election.
The monarch gave the advice when Iyamu, a former Edo state Commissioner for Education, visited the palace in Benin City ahead of his campaign.
Iyamu told the monarch that he considered it important to seek the palace’s guidance before taking his campaign to the people of Oredo.
According to him, the advice and prayers from the traditional institution would support his bid to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives.
Iyamu also pledged to serve the people responsibly if elected and congratulated the monarch on his 10th coronation anniversary.
Oba Ewuare II, who reiterated the palace’s non-partisan position, said he was a father to all political parties and candidates.
He urged Iyamu to consider the expectations of Oredo residents and abide by the rules of the electoral process.
The monarch subsequently prayed for Iyamu and his campaign team and wished them well.
