Ogun police charge five to court for seriou assault on its officers in Ota
The Ogun State Police Command has charged five suspects before the Ota Magistrate Court following an investigation into the serious assault and obstruction of police officers performing their lawful duties around The Bells area, Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, on October 2.
The police say the incident occurred when its patrol team intercepted and arrested a suspect found in possession of a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. While conveying the handcuffed suspect to the station, the officers were allegedly ambushed by a group of persons who attacked them with cutlasses, stones and bottles, resulting in injuries to police personnel, damage to the operational vehicle and the escape of the suspect.
Following immediate intelligence-led operations, the Ogun State Police Command arrested five suspects: Morenikeji Badmus, 36; Adedoja Segun, 40; Jeremiah Odise Ugbede Onride, 49; Mike Stephen, 28; and David Odeh, 32.
Confirming their arrest to newsmen, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the supects were arraigned on counts bordering on conspiracy, serious assult on police officers, obstruction of lawful duty and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
