Kano state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has brokered a reconciliation between the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, following their political differences within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The reconciliation meeting, which took place in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday, lasted about two hours and focused on resolving the differences between the two APC leaders and strengthening unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf urged Barau, Bichi and their supporters to put aside their grievances and work together for the interest of the party.

He said political disagreements were part of democratic engagement but should not be allowed to undermine the unity and progress of the APC.

Yusuf also urged the supporters of the two leaders to refrain from inflammatory statements, character assassination and other actions capable of deepening divisions within the party.

“Henceforth, I do not expect any of your supporters to come out and abuse one another. We must put a stop to this unnecessary distraction,” the governor said.

He called on APC members to place the collective interest of the party above individual differences, stressing that internal disputes should be resolved through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect.

The governor further called for unity among APC stakeholders in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the party needed cohesion to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kano State Government and other APC candidates.

According to the statement, the reconciliation process received the endorsement of President Tinubu.

Governor Yusuf also assured the President, the APC national leadership, the state chairman and other stakeholders that the party was prepared to work towards victory in all elective positions in Kano in 2027.

In their separate responses after the meeting, Senator Barau and Hon. Bichi cautioned their supporters against actions capable of fuelling further disagreements within the APC.

They also reaffirmed their support, loyalty and commitment to the success of the party at all levels.

The two leaders expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for intervening in the dispute and facilitating what they described as a truce and reconciliation.
