Kakanda communities’ resettlement from flood prune areas, our priority – NKADA

The President of the National Kakanda Development Association (NKADA) Dr Umar Musa Apataku has pledged to give key priority to the resettlement of Kakanda communities from flood prune locations to higher lands.

Apataku stated this at the weekend in his acceptance speech after the swearing in of new executives of the association on Minna.

He said, “A key priority will be resettling Kakanda communities in flood-prone areas to safer grounds, as earlier identified through collaboration with government and relevant development partners”.

According to him, the new NKADA leadership will be guided by a clear and practical agenda focused primarily on education, agriculture, community engagement, economic empowerment, peace and unity.

He explained that the future of Kakanda communities depends significantly on the quality of education available to our children and young people, adding that, “We shall therefore vigorously pursue initiatives that will promote educational development within our communities. We shall seek opportunities for scholarships, educational support, capacity development and partnerships with government institutions, development agencies, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals”.

He described agriculture as being central to the livelihood and economic well-being of many of the Kakanda people adding that his administration will therefore seek to promote agricultural development, productivity and economic opportunities, particularly for the youths and women.

Other members of the new leadership include a Minna-based journalist Mustapha Bina who was elected as the Secretary-General of NKADA while Alhaji Mohammed Yahaya Bola became the Vice President of the association.
