Balogun Olubadan raises alarm:  Suspected bandits planning to invade Ibadan

The Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, Thursday alleged that there are plans by suspected bandits to invade and attack Ibadan, capital of Oyo state.

Oba Ajibola who is also a member of the Olubadan-in-Council raised the alarm while speaking at the inauguration of the newly elected executive members and installation of new Agbekoya Chieftaincy holders by the Agbekoya Farmers Society of Nigeria.

Oba Ajibola said the bandits are threatening to invade Ibadan hence the need to beef up security around Ibadan, adding that members of the farmers’ association, Agbekoya in particular should remain vigilant and united,

He added that there is the need for adequate preparedness to prevent any possible security threat to Ibadan and surrounding communities in Oyo state .

“Please, wake up because those bandits are threatening to invade Ibadan. Let us make use of the traditional powers that our forefathers bequeathed to us to defend ourselves. Let there be no division among you.” he said.

The President-General of the Agbekoya Farmers Society, High Chief Kamorudeen Okikiola, stated that the association was prepared to confront bandits that might attack communities in the South-west.

“On what the Balogun Olubadan said that some bandits are planning to come to Oyo, let them come. They will meet us on  ground. We still have charms left for us by our forefathers who fought the war.”

The President-General alleged that herders had been attacking farmers and invading farmlands in the South-west for years and that the situation became more frequent under successive administrations.

He said Agbekoya had contributed significantly to security efforts in the region, but deliberately avoided publicity over its activities, saying, “we have done a lot on the security of the South-west, but we usually don’t make noise like others who would say they have killed 10 or 20 bandits.”
