FRSC recovers stolen Hyundai vehicle in Abuja, hands it over to Police

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a stolen Hyundai vehicle in Abuja and handed it over to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for further investigation.

The red Hyundai, with registration number YAB 789 AM, was recovered at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by a tow truck team of the FRSC RS7.1 FCT Sector Command at Wuye, along the expressway leading to Area 1.

A document found inside the vehicle provided information that enabled the FRSC team to trace and contact the vehicle’s owner.

This was contained in in a statement signed in Abuja on Tuesday by the corps spokesperson Osondu Ohaeri.

Following the recovery, the FCT Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, activated the inter-agency process by inviting the FCT Police Command to take custody of the vehicle for further investigation.

The vehicle was formally handed over by DCC Sabitu Abdu, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), to CSP Nimyel Ponfa, Divisional Police Officer, Wuse Division, who received it on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.

Reacting to the development on Tuesday, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed,  said the recovery underscored the importance of technology, vigilance, and inter agency collaboration in protecting lives and property on Nigerian roads.

Mohammed said the Corps would continue to strengthen its vehicle identification and intelligence capabilities while maintaining collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.

He noted that the development was in line with efforts to reposition the FRSC as a technologically driven, responsive, and security conscious institution.

According to him, the Corps’ National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) has become an important tool for vehicle verification and security operations, with 81 stolen vehicles recovered through the NVIS Portal under the current administration.

The Corps Marshal said the recovery further demonstrated that the FRSC’s mandate to save lives on the nation’s roads was closely linked to ensuring that the road environment remained safe, secure, and properly regulated.

He commended the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command team for its vigilance and professionalism and appreciated the FCT Police Command for its continued cooperation.

Mohammed assured Nigerians that the FRSC would continue to deploy technology, intelligence, field operations, and strategic partnerships to identify suspicious vehicles, support security investigations, and prevent the criminal exploitation of the nation’s road transportation system.
