The Women Helping Women for a Sustainable Tomorrow Foundation has launched a six-month skills acquisition programme in Edo state targeting the empowerment of 60 women and girls with practical skills to promote economic independence and sustainable livelihoods.
The foundation’s chief executive officer and global president, Dr Elizabeth Pedro, stated Tuesday during the official opening of the training programme at the foundation’s centre in Egor local government area of the state.
Pedro said the initiative was part of the foundation’s broader commitment to empowering women through education, entrepreneurship and skills acquisition, noting that economically independent women were better positioned to support their families and contribute to community development.
She stated that while temporary assistance could address immediate needs, equipping women with practical and marketable skills would give them the capacity to establish businesses and create sustainable sources of income.
Pedro added that the foundation currently operates in 22 countries, with its programmes focused on women’s empowerment, gender equality, economic empowerment and leadership development.
