Benue: Agatu council awards contracts for 3 strategic roads

 The Agatu local government council of Benue state has awarded contracts for the construction of three strategic roads across the local government area, as part of its commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity.

 The chairman of the council and deputy chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Benue state chapter, Melvin James Ejeh, disclosed this in a statement to journalists in Makurdi, stating that the contracts had been awarded to M/s RCSY Construction Nigeria Limited.

 The roads covered by the contracts are the Oshigbudu–Atakpa Road, Market Square–Onchali Road, and Adokpa–Och’ Adogoji Road, with construction work scheduled to commence next week.

 The chairman said the roads would be constructed to high standards, with asphalt surfacing and concrete drainage systems designed to provide safer, more durable and improved road connectivity for communities across Agatu.

 The council chairmen explained that the project would also complete the Oshigbudu–Atakpa section of the Oshigbudu–Ogbaulu Odugbeho Road, describing the development as an important step towards addressing the infrastructure needs of residents.

 Ejeh expressed appreciation to the Benue state governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for granting local government councils greater operational independence and providing the necessary support for effective administration at the grassroots with the construction of quality asphalt roads within the area.

 The chairman also acknowledged the intervention of Hon. Ojotu Ojema, member representing the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, particularly his contribution to the construction of a significant portion of the Oshigbudu–Atakpa Road.

 According to Ejeh, “the intervention by the federal lawmaker, which involved the use of quality construction materials, would help reduce the overall cost of completing the road project.

 “The Council would continue to prioritise infrastructure development and other initiatives capable of improving the living conditions of residents and promoting economic activities across Agatu.”
