World Teachers’ Day: Declare state of emergency in teaching sector, Labour Party tells FG

The Labour Party has called on Nigerian authorities to take a critical look at the pitiable condition of Nigerian teachers and declare a National State of Emergency in the teaching sector.
A statement Tuesday by the national publicity secretary of the party, Ken Asogwa, on the occasion of the World Teachers Day, said no nation can genuinely grow where those entrusted with molding the future generations of its citizens were themselves ill- their duties.
The party enjoined Nigerian teachers not to waver in their faith in the party as the pathway to improved welfare and better conditions of service for Nigerian teachers.
It assured the teachers that it stood firmly by them as they continued to agitate for better learning conditions for Nigerians children and improved working conditions for themselves.
The statement reads: “The Labour Party wishes Nigerian teachers, the very bastion of the nation’s knowledge and learning, a happy World Teachers’ Day.
“Given the pivotal role teachers play in molding our children and youths into the future leaders of tomorrow, the Labour Party notes with regret the current position of Nigerian teachers in society.
“As Nigerian teachers continue to agitate for better learning conditions for children and improved working conditions for themselves, the Labour Party wishes to assure them that it stands firmly by them.
“Given our shared history through the Labour Movement to the birth of the Labour Party, the party enjoins Nigerian teachers not to waver in their faith in the Labour Party as the pathway to improved welfare and better conditions of service for Nigerian teachers.
“As the 2027 elections approach, the party urges Nigerian teachers to stand firmly by the parties candidates across all elective positions.
