2027 polls: APM inaugurates campaign committee, warns against rigging
The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation Tuesday inaugurated its campaign committee, targeting two-fifths of the electorate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) across the country.
According to the party, the campaign will be issue-based engagement and in strict compliance with the Electoral Act.
Inaugurating the Committee in Abuja, the Presidential Candidate of the APM and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde represented by his running mate Lawal Daura, said the voter register has hit over 103 million, describing it as a landmark in the country’s democratic history.
He said the campaign’s target was based on the reported figure of about 103 million registered voters, adding that securing two-fifths of the electorate would be a major objective of the organisation.
“We are aiming to get nothing less than two-fifths of the 103 million,” Daura said.
He warned those contemplating electoral malpractice that the campaign would insist on strict compliance with the law and the Electoral Act.
“A lot of those that are thinking that there is a way to get votes other than canvassing for them, telling the people how qualitative you are, your programmes, and the rest of it, maybe there are those who may think there is a shortcut.
“Well, this time around, the struggle is for real. We are not going to let them escape with it. We must make sure that everything is done in accordance with the law and the Electoral Act.
“And for those who really want to rig, that they can pull a fast one, well, they have a surprise coming,” he said.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Campaign Organisation, Felix Hayat, has warned Nigerians against voting for All Progressives Congress (APC).
The campaign DG also appealed to the North to support the South in completing what he described as an eight-year tenure, saying that while power rotation was not constitutionally mandated, there was a moral obligation to sustain it in the interest of national unity.
Hayat, instead, urged the youths to vote for the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, arguing that Makinde offered Nigerians a credible alternative capable of addressing the country’s security and developmental challenges.
