Man arrested for allegedly setting brother, wife ablaze in Jigawa
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Abbas Ibrahim, over the death of his elder brother, Basiru Shuaibu, in a fire incident in Gwaram Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on September 29, 2026, at about 11:30pm at Nassarawa village, Gwaram LGA.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday.
According to him, the suspect, who claimed to be of unsound mind, allegedly jumped into his elder brother’s residence, poured petrol inside his room and set it ablaze.
The fire left Basiru and his wife with serious burns.
The victims were subsequently taken by relatives to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment. However, Basiru later died from injuries sustained in the incident.
Following the incident, police operatives launched an investigation and arrested Abbas in Sara town, Gwaram LGA.
The police said the case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Dutse, for further investigation.
The suspect has since been arraigned in court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, urged residents to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
He also advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities, threats and disputes to the police or other relevant security agencies.
