Prominent priest Mbaka speaks on ‘going blind’
Catholic priest and founder of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has recounted what he described as a “medical and scientific mystery” after doctors reportedly found that his eye condition had deteriorated to the point of blindness despite his ability to see and read without assistance.
Mbaka made the disclosure while recounting his experience at Passion Center in a video, where he said he underwent extensive ophthalmological and optical examinations following years of stress and sleeplessness.
According to the cleric, the examinations involved several tests using modern medical equipment, with the results reportedly leaving the doctors surprised.
Doctors reportedly puzzled by findings
Mbaka said the medical findings indicated that both eyes had deteriorated beyond the level of legal blindness, yet he was still able to see, read and move around without assistance.
He said the doctors initially assumed members of the Ayanwu family had taken him to the hospital because he was blind.
However, Mbaka said he told them that he had come to the hospital by himself.
He quoted the doctors as questioning how someone whose eye condition had reportedly reached the fifth or sixth level of blindness could still see, read and move around independently.
To demonstrate his ability to see, Mbaka said he opened his Bible and began reading it before the doctors.
“I opened the pages of the Bible and started reading it. Are you telling me that the God of Adoration doesn’t exist?” he said.
Mbaka attributes sight to miracle
According to the priest, the doctors told him that, except God had given him new eyes, they could not explain his ability to see despite the reported medical findings.
“They said, ‘Except God has put new eyes.’ Yes, God has put new eyes,” Mbaka said.
He further claimed that the findings were subsequently sent to Dr Chiogbu Chukwu, based in Los Angeles, who reportedly sought confirmation through another doctor identified as Dr Scott.
Mbaka said the doctors reportedly confirmed that, medically and scientifically, both of his eyes were no longer functional.
“Chiogbu confirmed through Dr Scott that, medically, scientifically, the two eyes are gone. But I’m seeing with them,” he said.
The cleric described his experience as a miracle and said he considered himself a beneficiary of what he regarded as divine intervention.
“What then do you call miracle? I’m a beneficiary. I can now join you to give testimony,” he said.
Mbaka cautions against abandoning medical treatment
Despite attributing his experience to divine intervention, Mbaka cautioned his followers against abandoning orthodox medicine when seeking spiritual healing.
He urged people who are ill to continue to follow medical advice and consult qualified doctors, stressing that prayer should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment.
“I will always ask you if you are sick. Don’t neglect the medical advice. Do not rely only on prayers. God created those people that are doctors,” he said.
The cleric added that he believed in both medical and spiritual healing, saying people should allow God to determine the means through which healing occurs.
“I believe in medical healing, even as I approve spiritual healing. However God does it, let Him be glorified,” he said.
Mbaka also thanked members of the Adoration Ministry and other supporters for their prayers, describing their collective support as a source of strength for the church.
He likened the support he receives to the different positions in a football team, saying his ministry could not function through his efforts alone.
