Police arrest members of notorious motorcycle-snatching syndicate for allegedly k!lling nine persons in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested members of a notorious motorcycle-snatching syndicate for allegedly k!lling nine persons and stealing 33 motorcycles across three states.

The spokesperson for the command, Lawn Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Adam said the syndicate specialised in motorcycle snatching, receiving stolen property and other violent crimes across Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa States.

According to the statement, the breakthrough followed an incident in which one of the suspects allegedly attacked and snatched a motorcycle from one Okada rider in Jahun LGA.

“The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested members of a suspected syndicate allegedly specializing in motorcycle snatching, receiving stolen property, and other violent crimes across Kaduna, Kano, and Jigawa States,” the statement read.

“The breakthrough followed an incident in which one of the suspects allegedly attacked and snatched a motorcycle from one Okada rider in Aujara District, Jahun LGA.

“Following the incident, the police, in collaboration with vigilantes, responded promptly, recovered the stolen motorcycle, and apprehended the suspect.

“The arrest subsequently led to the identification and apprehension of other alleged members of the syndicate operating across the three states.

“During a discreet and painstaking investigation, the suspects reportedly disclosed their involvement in the snatching of no fewer than thirty-three (33) motorcycles belonging to innocent members of the public in different locations across Kaduna, Kano, and Jigawa States.

“The suspects further allegedly revealed their involvement in violent attacks during which some victims were wounded and injured.

“More disturbingly, they reportedly confessed to the alleged k!lling of nine (9) persons in the course of their criminal activities across the three states.”

The suspects’ identities are

1. Ado Saleh alias Datti ‘m’ age 55yrs of Kawari village, Ajingi LGA, Kano State.

2. Abdullahi Saidu ‘m’ age 37yrs of Kwanar Dangora village, Kano State.

3. Magaji Danladi ‘m’ of Auramo quarters Ringim LGA. 

4. Sabiu Miko ‘m’ Of Kaugama LGA. 

5. Habibu Dan Iya ‘m’ of Didi village Gagarawa LGA

6. Shamsu Sani ‘m’ age 32yrs of Ajingi LGA, Kano State, 

7. Ali Salisu ‘m’ age 40yrs of Yanbaru settlement, Sule Tankarkar LGA, 

8. Alhassan Isa alias Tata ‘m’ of Shuwarin Kiyawa LGA, 

9. Ado Ali ‘m’ of Baranda village, Dutse LGA.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, commended the police personnel involved in the operation, as well as the Good Samaritan whose timely intervention contributed to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest that led to the wider breakthrough.

The CP has directed the SCID Dutse to sustain a discreet and professional investigation towards identifying other members of the syndicate, tracing and recovering additional stolen motorcycles, establishing the circumstances surrounding the reported attacks and alleged k!llings, and ensuring that all suspects found culpable are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
