NABTEB records 81.24% pass rate in 2026 exams

At least 79,504 candidates recorded five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics in the June/July 2026 National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations.

The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Dr Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, gave the announcement at a press briefing held at the board’s headquarters in Benin City, Edo state, Wednesday, following the release of the examinations results.

Dr Aminu said the figure represents 81.24 per cent of the 97,867 candidates who sat for the examinations.

Mohammed added that the performance marked a significant improvement over the previous examination cycle, when 61,104 candidates, representing 68.18 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

 He further disclosed that 89,580 candidates, representing 91.53 per cent of those who sat for the 2026 examinations, obtained five credits and above, irrespective of whether they passed English Language and Mathematics.

This, he said, also compared favourably with the 2025 figure of 74,633 candidates, representing 83.28 per cent, who obtained five credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics.

“The improvement recorded in the 2026 examination is encouraging and demonstrates the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and the wider education system,” the NABTEB boss said.

Mohammed also revealed that 24,128 candidates, representing 24.65 per cent, were certified as craftsmen following the examinations.

He described the development as significant, adding that it aligned with NABTEB’s mandate of promoting practical skills, technical competence and occupational proficiency among Nigerians.

The registrar stated that 100,069 candidates registered for the examinations, compared with 92,876 candidates that registered in 2025.
