Hollywood actor Rob Reiner wins Emmy award for role in ‘The Bear’ nine months after his tragic d3ath

Nine months after his tragic death, Rob Reiner has received a posthumous Emmy Award for his performance in FX’s kitchen drama The Bear.

Reiner’s award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series was announced on Sunday evening, September 6 at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony in downtown Los Angeles.

Famed for directing classic films including The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, This Is Spinal Tap, and Misery, the late Hollywood stalwart received a standing ovation from peers in the audience as presenters accepted the honor on his behalf.

Reiner and his wife of four decades, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, in December 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty.

In his performance in The Bear, Reiner appeared in season 4 as a benevolent business consultant, Albert Schnur.

In the guest actor category, Reiner was nominated alongside Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow’s Bay, Christopher McDonald for Hacks, and Connor Storrie for Saturday Night Live.

Reiner’s win came 48 years after his previous Emmy victory for his performance as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in the CBS sitcom All in the Family.

The 48-year gap between acting wins marks the longest span between performance Emmys in the television academy’s history, surpassing the previous 37-year record set by his father, Carl Reiner, who won in 1958 for Caesar’s Hour and in 1995 for Mad About You.
