Northern Senators mourn Emirs of Gumel, Zurmi

Serving Senators from the North have mourned the demise of Emir of Gumel, Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani, who died at 85 and Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, who also died at 82.

While the Emir of Zurmi died on Monday, the late Emir of Gumel passed on Thursday this week.

Expressing their condolences, the senators, in a statement signed by their chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua ( Katsina Central) in Abuja Friday, said news of the demise of the two traditional rulers were received with deep sorrow and total submission to the will of the Almighty Allah.

The senators said Sani would be remembered as a scholar, administrator and bridge-builder who carried the crown of Gumel with humility, wisdom and dignity.

His reign, according to them, brought peace, unity and growth in education to the Gumel Emirate.

“He was a father to all – irrespective of tribe or status – and his palace remained open to the cries of the oppressed.

“He championed modern education, encouraged girl-child schooling, and provided calm, clear and just leadership during times of tension.

“His counsel shaped a generation of leaders and he will be remembered as a guardian of our culture, values and religion,” they said.

On the other hand, they described the late Emir of Zurmi as a highly respected traditional ruler who led his people with “wisdom and unwavering commitment,” especially during a challenging period of security concerns in Zamfara state.

The law makers stated further that, “In the five years on the throne, he demonstrated exemplary courage and leadership, fostering peace, unity and resilience within the Zurmi Emirate.

“His wise counsel and dedication to peace-building were invaluable not only to his domain but also to broader efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the North-West.”

They prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive the monarchs their shortcomings, accept their good deeds, and grant them Aljannah Firdaus.
