Gunmen attack military base in Oyo, burn patrol vehicle

Unknown gunmen have attacked an Army outpost along the Igbeti–Igboho road in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, setting fire to a block within the base and a patrol vehicle.

According to a security update from the Oorelope Local Government Command. the attack occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026

The command said it received a distress call that armed men in large numbers had invaded the Operation Burst base and immediately mobilised its operatives, alongside personnel from other security agencies, to the area.

However, the attackers fled before the security team arrived.

Security operatives subsequently combed the area and made efforts to locate the attackers, but no arrests were made.

No casualty was recorded in the incident, according to the security update.

However, the attackers allegedly set fire to a block within the base and a patrol van, destroying both properties.
