Decorate First Niger Bridge With Tinubu’s Pictures – Umahi

Minister of Works, David Umahi has ordered the removal of all advertisements from the First Niger Bridge, and their replacement with only images of President Bola Tinubu owing to his hard work.

Umahi gave these directives while inspecting the ongoing repairs and maintenance on the First Niger Bridge on Wednesday alongside representatives of Delta and Anambra State.

The bridge proposed to have reopened on September 21, has now been rescheduled for an unspecified date next week, according to Umahi due to persistent rainfall that has pre-empted the completion of structural work.

“Once we are done with work on this bridge, I want all the illegal adverts on this bridge removed. Anyone who wants to advertise should apply to the Ministry of Works.

“For now, the bridge will be decorated with the pictures of President Tinubu. The President has worked so hard and we need to reward his hard work by decorating this bridge with his pictures,” Umahi said.

The minister noted that only one carriageway would initially reopen, while work continued on the other, adding that the ministry would not reopen the bridge until the required work was completed.

The minister thereafter ordered the elimination of security checkpoints mounted within 200 metres of the First Niger Bridge upon completion of the bridge to prevent traffic congestion.

While assuring to speak to the police and military authorities, he stated plans to engage the Anambra and Delta state governments on monitoring scrap markets due to concerns over the vandalism of public infrastructure.

Recall that the bridge was closed on September 7 for emergency repairs and maintenance due to its deplorable state as well as vandalism of its structural equipment.

Umahi further banned dredging activities around the bridge and reiterated the installation of CCTV cameras, streetlights, the carriageway and walkways, and the replacement of damaged bolts and expansion joints.
