Suspected bandits have att@cked communities in Giwa and Kubau local government areas of Kaduna State, k!lling five persons, including three personnel of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KadVS), and abducting 27 others including the brother of a serving lawmaker.

Confirming the arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson of KadVS, Yunusa Shehu, said bandits invaded Giwa community and k!lled two persons in Tunburku, Tudun Amada and Kallon Kura communities, while they k!lled three KadVS personnel in Kubau.

He stated that the bandits attacked Tunburku in Kidandan District and Tudun Amada in Kadage District simultaneously in the early hours of Monday. He mentioned that two persons, identified as Surajo and Ado, were k!lled in Tunburku, while 26 residents were abducted in Tudun Amada.

He added that another resident, Ayyuba Usman, sustained injuries.

Shehu mentioned that in a separate incident, the bandits invaded Kura community in Danmahawayi District at about 9pm. on Saturday, and rustled cattle belonging to residents.

He said the attackers also invaded Kallon Kura in Danmahawayi District during the night and rustled cattle before security personnel mobilised to the area.

Shehu mentioned that following intelligence on the movement of the bandits, KadVS personnel mobilised to track the attackers and recover the animals. He said the personnel reportedly engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat and abandon the cattle before fleeing the area.

The security operatives subsequently recovered 19 cattle from the bandits at about midnight, on Saturday, according to a security source, who spoke to NAN.

Shehu said in Kubau, bandits abducted the younger brother of a Kaduna lawmaker, where they also killed the KadVS personnel.

The KadVS imagemaker mentioned that the abduction of the lawmaker’s brother occurred a few hours after KadVS personnel were k!lled along the Zaria-Pambegua axis.

He identified the abducted victim as Sanusi, younger brother of Shehu Pambegua, member representing Kubau constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, who was taken from his residence.

Shehu said the victim was abducted at about 10p.m on Monday, when the bandits, who reportedly arrived in a Sharon vehicle, invaded his residence and whisked him away.

He identified the slain personnel as Dallami Dantani, second-in-command of KadVS in Kubau; Abdullahi Hamisu and Zakariyya Musa.

According to him, the personnel were conducting routine security checks when they attempted to stop a red Volkswagen Golf Salon, but the driver refused, prompting them to pursue the vehicle.

Shehu said the personnel pursued the vehicle in an official patrol van to ascertain the occupants’ identities and purpose of movement, but the suspects opened fire during the chase.

He said the suspects killed Dantani during the pursuit, before turning back towards the KadVS office, where they fatally shot Hamisu and Musa, before fleeing towards Zaria.
