APC’s Chinda kicks off Rivers guber campaign, pledges to serve ‘with fear of God’

 Kingsley Chinda, governorship candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, has pledged to serve the state “with the
fear of God and mankind” if elected.

 

Chinda, an ally of Nyesom Wike, minister of Federal Capital
Territory (FCT), made the pledge in a terse post on X, where he shared a flyer
to officially kick-start his campaign for the next election.

“We will serve Rivers State with the fear of God and love
for mankind,” he wrote.

His post came as campaigns for the governorship and state
houses of assembly elections across the country officially commenced in line
with the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Chinda, a former minority leader of the green chamber and
the sole contestant, was declared winner of the APC governorship primary in May
after Siminalayi Fubara, the incumbent governor, withdrew from the race.

Fubara was initially screened alongside Chinda for the APC
primary but later stepped down, saying he made the decision out of conviction
and sacrifice for the peace and unity of Rivers.

In July, Fubara declared his support for Chinda, naming him
as his preferred successor.

The governor also backed the Rainbow Coalition, a political
group founded by the FCT minister in Rivers for the second term bid of
President Bola Tinubu.

Fubara and Wike had been locked in a prolonged political
feud that triggered efforts by lawmakers loyal to the FCT minister to impeach
the governor before both camps eventually reached a political truce.

However, both men have since reconciled following Fubara’s
defection to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
