Why Minister Musa spoke on situation in Kaduna -Support Group

The CG Musa for PBAT Support Group has said the recent comments by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), on Channels Television should be understood from the perspective of his long years of military service and concerns over national security, rather than as a political or personal attack.

The group, in a statement signed by its Director-General, Zakariyah Yakub, said Musa spoke as a soldier who had spent decades serving the country and had witnessed first-hand the consequences of insecurity, communal conflicts and social divisions.

It said the minister’s intervention, particularly on issues concerning Kaduna state and national cohesion, was driven by the need to protect the collective interest of Nigerians and promote peaceful coexistence.

The group cautioned against interpreting Musa’s position as a personal vendetta, stressing that the country’s security, justice, accountability and reconciliation challenges were bigger than individuals or political interests.

According to the statement, ethnic, religious, regional and political considerations should not be allowed to override the broader national interest.

It urged those who felt aggrieved by Musa’s comments to express their disagreement through appropriate channels and seek legal remedies where necessary, saying facts, evidence and due process should guide the resolution of any dispute.

The group also appealed to political leaders and public commentators to exercise restraint in their reactions, warning that heated exchanges could deepen existing divisions at a time when the country needed greater unity.

It said the wider issues raised by the controversy should not be reduced to personality politics or personal exchanges, but should instead stimulate constructive conversations around security, justice, accountability and national reconciliation.

The support group further urged Nigerians to reject attempts to exploit ethnic, religious or regional differences, saying the country could not afford actions capable of undermining national cohesion and development.

It described Musa’s commitment to a peaceful, secure and united Nigeria as unwavering, adding that his record of service should be considered when assessing his concerns about the country’s security and unity.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to responsible leadership, national cohesion, security and progress, declaring: “Nigeria First.”
