Actress Tonto Dikeh has spoken out against substance abuse, drawing from her own past battles to offer a powerful message of warning and hope.
The mother of one took to her Instagram page to address the public, opening up about her journey through what she described as a “dark road”. In her emotional post, Dikeh candidly shared that she learned firsthand that substances are ultimately a false comfort.
“Substances don’t make the pain go away,” Dikeh stated. She explained that while drugs might offer a temporary escape, the underlying hurt and pain remain. Instead, drug addiction slowly creeps into a person’s life, eventually stealing their joy and vitality.
Reflecting on her past public persona, the actress acknowledged that many people previously judged her for being chaotic and unstable. However, she revealed that behind the public drama, she was secretly crying for help and using substances to mask deep-seated emotional pain.
Tonto extended an appeal to the public, urging people to show grace and empathy rather than condemnation when dealing with individuals struggling with dependency. She concluded her message on a note of encouragement, stating that if she could break free from the shackles of addiction, anyone else can achieve recovery too
