Intensify security at Millennium City, PDP governorship candidate tells Kaduna government
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Hon. Usman Shehu Bawa, has called on the state government to intensify security measures following the reported abduction of four persons in Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area (LGA).
Bawa, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, he urged the authorities to ensure the swift and safe rescue of the victims abducted from Rahusa Estate, as well as those reportedly kidnapped during a previous attack in Babban Saura PW.
According to the statement, the latest incident occurred around 11pm on Monday, October 6, when kidnappers reportedly raided Rahusa Estate and abducted four residents.
The PDP candidate said the incident came barely a week after an attack on a community in Babban Saura PW, where one person was reportedly killed while others were abducted.
He expressed concern over what he described as the growing fear among residents of Millennium City and other communities in the state, saying residents should be able to move freely and sleep safely in their homes.
Bawa commended security personnel for their efforts in confronting kidnappers and other criminal elements but said more decisive action was required.
“While we commend our gallant security personnel who continue to risk their lives confronting kidnappers and other criminal elements, it is clear that commendation alone is not enough,” he said.
He called on the Kaduna State Government to immediately increase security presence in Millennium City and other vulnerable communities in Chikun and its environs.
Bawa also urged the government to work with estate associations to provide street lights, patrol vehicles and emergency communication lines, while facilitating the establishment or deployment of security outfits in vulnerable communities.
He further called for adequate support and equipment for vigilante groups, including the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVIS), to complement conventional security agencies in soft-target communities.
The PDP candidate also urged the government to ensure the safe rescue of all victims abducted in the recent attacks.
He said the state could not achieve lasting security through statements alone, but through “deliberate, inclusive and sustained action.”
Bawa said his proposed administration under the “People Agenda” would make community security a foundation of governance by involving residents in the security architecture.
“This is one attack too many. Our people deserve better,” he said.
He expressed sympathy with the families of the abducted victims and those who lost loved ones in the attacks.
