The House of Representatives Press Corps has named the Niger state governor, Umaru Bago, and founder and chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd., High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), among the lead discussants at the second edition of its annual lecture series.

Others on the list include a former Minority Leader of the House, Ndudi Elumelu, and the Secretary of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, Mr. Nnadubem Moghalu.

The event, billed for October 6, 2026, comes at a significant point in Nigeria’s security and constitutional reform process, with the bill seeking to establish State Police Services now before the 36 State Houses of Assembly for consideration.

The Press Corps has chosen “The Imperative for State Police: Securing Communities, Strengthening Federalism” as the theme for the 2026 Distinguished Parliamentarian Lecture.

While naming the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, as Chief Host, who is expected to speak on the position of the 10th House on the state police, the guest lecturers will discuss other subject matters as they relate to the theme.

According to the Corps’ leadership, the event is “expected to attract lawmakers, policymakers, security professionals, civil society organisations, academics, development partners,” and more.
