Six Arraigned Over Alleged Defilement, Child Abuse In Anambra

Six suspects have been arraigned before the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka, Anambra State, over separate allegations of defilement, sexual assault, child abuse and the unlawful procurement of abortion involving minors.

The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday after police investigations into the different cases.

One of the suspects, Chinedu Chiekwu of Umuoli Village, was arraigned over the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old child on September 6.

Another suspect, Sunday Anele, was arraigned over an allegation of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl, which allegedly resulted in pregnancy.

Ugochukwu Okereke was also arraigned for allegedly luring a 13-year-old girl into a bush where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Ebuka Nwachukwu was arraigned for allegedly luring a six-year-old girl into his room in Okpoko and sexually abusing her.

Another suspect, Ogechi Ofoma, was arraigned over an allegation that she used a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her five-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, in Awada, Obosi.

The sixth suspect, Obianuju Okafor, was arraigned over an allegation involving the unlawful procurement of abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.

Separately, the Anambra State Police Command said it had concluded investigations into the case of a 36-year-old woman allegedly seen in a widely circulated video engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving her child.

The police said the case file had been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for “necessary legal action.”

According to the command, the suspect remained in police custody pending further proceedings.
