Singer Chris Brown slams Texas Rep. Venton Jones for apologizing for honoring him
Singer Chris Brown has criticised Texas State Representative Venton Jones after the lawmaker apologised for participating in an event recognising Brown’s achievements in music and entertainment.
Jones appeared on stage alongside US Representative Jasmine Crockett at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, September 12, where Brown and fellow R&B singer Usher were recognised for their contributions to music and entertainment. Crockett announced that their achievements would be documented in the Congressional Record, while Jones participated in the presentation. The recognition subsequently attracted criticism because of Brown’s history of domestic violence, including his 2009 guilty plea to felony assault involving his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
Jones addressed the controversy during an appearance on The Don Lemon Show on Tuesday, apologising for his involvement in honouring Brown. Brown initially thanked Jones and Crockett for the recognition, but responded critically after Jones issued his apology.
Writing on Instagram on Tuesday night, Brown accused Jones of reversing his position because of political pressure, saying the lawmaker “immediately started tap dancing and apologizing because he didn’t wanna lose voters or support.” Brown also said he had not requested the recognition and had been “minding my damn business” when the officials approached him with the honour.

“I have a great idea.. how about yall leave me the f*** alone and let me focus on the fans,” Brown added. Crockett also appeared on stage during the presentation and spoke positively about Brown and Usher’s contributions to music. The Congressional Record recognition was ceremonial and did not represent legislation or a vote by Congress.
