Registrar laments exam complication as NECO announces 2026 SSCE results

The Registrar of the National Examinations Council ( NECO) Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi has described the 2026 Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) internal as the most tasking and complicated examination ever conducted during  his tenure at the council.

He stated this Thursday while releasing the results of the NECO 2026 SSCE results in Minna.

He stated that although the results represents one of the best in terms of candidates performance, with 804, 948 obtaining credit in English and Mathematics, representing 58.67 percent and 1, 162, 118 having five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics, the conduct of the examination tested the system, process, readiness and resolve of the council.

He said, ” I feel highly elated to release this year’s SSCE results. This is because this examination was most tasking. It tested our system, processes, readiness and resolve of the council. I must admit that I have never conducted any examination as complicated as that of this year”.

He said that it however represents the commitment and dedication of NECO staff to ensure that the council certificates are credible and also the best in the world.

In a breakdown of the results, the registrar said the total of 1,371,992 sat for the examination representing 678,903 male and 693,089 female candidates, adding that 1,334 candidates with special needs also say for the examination.

Professor Dantani Wushishi also announced the sharp reduction in examination malpractice saying, “the number of candidates involved in various forms of examination malpractice in 2026 is 1, 406 candidates as against 3,878 candidates in 2025 which shows a decrease of 74.74 percent”.
