"No inheritance, no contribution. Let the male children do the building" Woman says after her father requested N1.5m from her to build their house in village
A woman has shared how her family expected her to contribute towards their village building, but she declined after being informed that her brothers who can’t afford to contribute financially would inherit the building while she gets nothing according to tradition.
According to the Ikwerre woman, she’s the one with funds in her family. So when her father asked for the money to carry out work on their vilage building, she said she was ready to send the money in dollars so it could be converted to Naira.
She said she asked if she would inherit any part of the building if her dad passes on and she was told she cannot because she’s a woman.
However, she was told that a room would be made available to her whenever she visits.
She said such arrangement does not sit well with her, and she asked that her brothers who would inherit the building should be the ones to contribute towards it.
Revealing her response to her father, she said: “So I said OK, giving you money for a building that I will not inherit if you’re no longer around is against my own rules and my own tradition and my religion, so therefore I will not give you that money.”
She added: “He burst out laughing like say na joke, me too I burst out laughing.”
She said when she told her father that she was serious, he reminded her that she had promised earlier to send the money.
“I said yes, we had an agreement, but I’m here to disappoint you. I will not be giving you this money because I’m not worthy to inherit anything from my father’s property because of tradition. So my money is not worthy to be included in that building project,” she continued.
In the video caption, she wrote: “No inheritance, no contribution. Let the male children do the building.”
She added: “I better carry the money buy clothes and wigs dey wear.”
