Police hunt male guest over death of woman in Calabar hotel

The Cross River State Police Command has launched a search for a male hotel guest who disappeared after checking into a hotel in Calabar South with a woman who was later found dead.

The woman, whose identity is yet to be established, was discovered dead at the hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, in what police are treating as a suspected homicide.

The command disclosed this in an update issued on Wednesday on the incident, which was earlier reported on September 8, 2026.

According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that the deceased had lodged at the hotel alongside the unidentified man, whose current whereabouts remain unknown.

Investigators are now working to locate him and establish the events that preceded the discovery of the woman’s body.

The command has also released a photograph of the deceased as part of efforts to identify her and trace her family and associates.

It appealed to anyone who recognises the woman or has information about her identity or the whereabouts of the male guest to contact the police.

Meanwhile, the receptionist who was on duty when the two guests were admitted remains in police custody and is assisting investigators.

Police said he was being questioned about the admission of the guests and events leading up to the discovery of the deceased.

The command, however, clarified that the receptionist’s detention does not establish his guilt, stressing that any further action would depend on available evidence and comply with the law.

The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed that the investigation be handled professionally and objectively.
