I was not consulted – Moghalu rejects inclusion in Atiku’s policy team

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign.

Moghalu, in a statement, said he was surprised to see his name on the list, insisting that he was never contacted before the announcement was made public.

He said he was neither consulted nor gave his consent before his name was published as a member of the policy team of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate.

Moghalu stressed that he is not part of Atiku’s policy team, either officially or unofficially, and does not serve in any advisory capacity to the former vice president.

He also said he had stayed away from partisan politics since 2022 and had remained politically neutral.

“I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he said.

The former CBN deputy governor explained that he currently focuses on leading the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET) Africa, a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy.

He also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.

“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail any partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.

Moghalu’s rejection followed Atiku Abubakar’s announcement on Thursday of his 2027 campaign council, in which Moghalu was listed as a member of the policy team headed by Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
