Police arrest three suspects for brutal murder of couple and their four children in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder and robbery of a family at Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on 6th October, 2026.
According to the PPRO, the suspects identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village, allegedly invaded the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children on September 22, 2026.
Ayanlade said the suspects were armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
They allegedly robbed the family of N200,000 naira cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
During the attack, Hammed Akinbami allegedly shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head.
The suspects tied two of the couple’s children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were k!lled and their bodies disposed of in the same river.
The remains of the wife have since been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the other victims.
“The arrest followed credible intelligence received by the Command on 2 October 2026 at about 1700hrs regarding the incident, which occurred on 22 September 2026 at about 1900hrs.
“Acting promptly on the information, detectives commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible,” the statement read.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that three suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami ‘M’, Akinbami Ojo ‘M’ and Padonu Edward ‘M’, all of Oloba Village, Lagelu LGA, invaded the residence of one Ifeanyi Chukwu ‘M’, his wife and their four children.
“The suspects were armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club, which they used in carrying out the attack.
“During the invasion, the suspects robbed the family of N200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
“In the course of the attack, Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward inflicted injuries on the wife by hitting her on the head.
“The attack subsequently took a fatal turn as the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs and threw them into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were k!lled and their bodies disposed of in the same river.
“In continuation of the investigation, detectives of the Command visited the scene, where photographs were taken and several exhibits were recovered.
“The recovered items include the Boxer motorcycle belonging to the family, one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club used during the attack. The three suspects were subsequently arrested and detained.
“Following their arrest, the suspects were subjected to interrogation during which the three confessed to their involvement in the crime.
“The remains of the wife have since been recovered, while concerted efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the four other victims, all members of the same family, who were dumped in the river.
“Consequently, the suspects and case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, has directed a thorough investigation into the case, with a view to ensuring that all persons found culpable are brought to justice.”
