Nigeria Immigration extends UK passport intervention exercise

The Nigeria Immigration Service has extended its ongoing Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom from September 19 to October 3, 2026, following a high turnout of Nigerians seeking passport services.

The Service, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, on Friday, said the exercise was progressing smoothly at the London and Manchester centres despite initial challenges recorded on the first day.

The NIS said 1,477 Nigerians were successfully processed and enrolled within the first four days of the exercise, with more than half of those enrolled already having their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses.

Extension approved following high turnout

The Service said the extension was approved under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in response to the increasing demand for passport services among Nigerians in the UK.

The exercise in London and Manchester, initially scheduled to run until September 19, will now continue until October 3.

According to the NIS, the extension is intended to provide additional capacity and enable more eligible applicants to access the intervention exercise.

“Within the first four days of the exercise, a total number of 1477 Nigerians have been successfully processed and enrolled. Over half of those enrolled have already had their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses,” the statement said.

Appointment required for applicants

The NIS urged eligible applicants to book appointments for the special intervention exercise through the website of the High Commission of Nigeria in the United Kingdom.

Applicants are required to present a completed application form and payment receipt, appointment slip for the intervention exercise, current passport where applicable and a self-addressed return envelope at their scheduled appointments.

The Service also reiterated that passport application and payment processes are fully automated and strictly cashless.

It warned applicants that no additional charges are required to participate in the special intervention exercise.

Passport fees remain unchanged

According to the NIS, the applicable passport fees remain $162 for a five-year validity passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year validity booklet.

The Service said the extension would not result in additional charges for applicants participating in the intervention exercise.

It added that further information on the extended dates, participating locations and appointment procedures would be communicated through the official channels of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the High Commission of Nigeria in the United Kingdom.
