The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to regulating a sustainable electricity sector.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Thursday, the commission said it was “powering progress” as the nation marked the milestone.

“NERC remains committed to regulating a sustainable electricity sector that powers opportunities for Nigerians,” the commission said.

It called on Nigerians to join hands in building the country, adding: “Together, let’s power the Nigeria we are building.”

The message comes as electricity bills remain held at the level set in July 2024, with the Federal Government footing the gap.

The Federal Government incurred a N358.32 billion tariff subsidy obligation in the first quarter of 2026, according to NERC’s own report.
