The Chairman, Forum of National Youth Leaders of all Political Parties in Nigeria (FNYLPP), Hon. Comrade Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, has called for the effective implementation and monitoring of recommendations that will emerge from the National Youth Conference 2026.

Chukwu made the call while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the virtual opening ceremony of the first National Youth Conference in Nigeria, where he urged young Nigerians to take advantage of the platform to contribute meaningfully to discussions on the present and future of the country.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, alongside collaborating youth networks and stakeholders, for creating what he described as a historic opportunity for young Nigerians to participate directly in national conversations.

“This is the first time that we are given this opportunity to discuss the affairs of this nation by ourselves,” he said.

According to him, the conference represents an important step towards ensuring that young Nigerians have a meaningful place in decisions concerning the future of the country.

“This is giving young Nigerians a meaningful place at the table where decisions about the future of our country and youths of this country are being taken because the future of Nigerian youths must not be built without Nigerian youths,” Chukwu said.

He, however, warned that the success of the conference should not be measured by the number of participants or speeches delivered, but by the extent to which its recommendations are translated into concrete action.

“Nigeria has never lacked ideas. Our challenge has always been converting good ideas into measurable action,” he said.

Chukwu urged participants to focus on practical solutions to challenges confronting young Nigerians, including unemployment, skills development, political participation, national unity and the effective use of technology.

He also called for greater political cooperation among young leaders across party lines, stressing that political differences should not become national divisions.

“We can belong to different political parties, disagree on policies, compete politically and still cooperate in building a peaceful, prosperous and united Nigeria,” he said.

The youth leader urged participants to move beyond complaints and take responsibility for shaping the country’s future.

“This gathering should not become another platform where young Nigerians merely complain about yesterday. It should be a platform where we take responsibility for tomorrow,” he said.

Chukwu further called for the conference to produce clear recommendations, responsible institutions, measurable timelines and a framework for monitoring implementation.

He said young Nigerians should be able to look back on the 2026 conference and identify tangible changes that occurred as a result of their participation.

“Speak but also listen. Demand but also propose. Criticise where necessary but provide alternatives. Seek opportunities but also prepare yourselves for responsibility,” he told participants.

He urged young Nigerians to prepare themselves for the responsibilities that come with leadership, stressing that participation in governance must be matched with competence, commitment and accountability.

“Do not only ask for a seat at the table. Prepare yourself for the responsibility that comes with sitting at that table. Let us participate. Let us contribute. Let us join to build. Above all, let us walk the talk,” Chukwu said.
