MTN confirms network outage in Oyo, Lagos, others
MTN Nigeria has confirmed a network outage affecting some of its customers in Oyo, Lagos, Rivers and Delta states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
The telecommunications company disclosed this in a statement posted on its X account on Thursday, informing customers in the affected locations that some of its services might be temporarily unavailable.
MTN said the disruption was caused by network challenges but did not disclose the specific nature or cause of the problem.
“Network Outage Alert! We’re experiencing network challenges in some parts of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta States and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result,” the company said.
The company assured affected customers that its engineers were working to restore normal services as quickly as possible.
Network disruption affects customers
The outage means some MTN customers in the affected locations may experience difficulties accessing the company’s services.
Depending on the extent of the disruption in their areas, customers could face challenges with mobile connectivity and other services provided through the network.
MTN, however, did not disclose the number of customers affected or provide details on how widespread the disruption was within the five locations.
The telecommunications company also did not immediately state whether the disruption was linked to equipment failure, fibre cuts, power issues or any other technical problem.
Engineers working to restore services
In a subsequent update, MTN apologised to customers experiencing difficulties and reiterated its commitment to restoring services.
“Dear Customer, We are aware some of our customers are having challenges using our services. Our engineers are working to restore services as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience,” the company said.
The company did not provide a specific timeline for the restoration of all affected services.
MTN urged customers to remain patient as its technical teams work to resolve the network challenges.
The outage comes as telecommunications services remain central to communication, digital banking, business transactions, education and other daily activities for millions of Nigerians.
The company is expected to provide further updates as efforts to restore full network services continue.
