The Kogi state government Tuesday empowered members of the South-south community residing in the state with sewing machines, grinding machines, textiles, and cash support of N1.5 million to cushion the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal on their businesses.

The security adviser to the governor, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), who announced the gesture during a meeting with the community in Lokoja, said the intervention was part of government efforts to support small-scale businesses and promote inclusiveness among all ethnic groups resident in the state.

Omodara also distributed textile materials to female members of the community as part of the empowerment package.

Speaking on his background, he noted that he began his military career in the South-south region as a Naval Instructor in Rivers state and  commended the leadership of the community for fostering unity among indigenes of South-south states living in Kogi state.

He praised the president of the community, Hon. Mike Abu, who also serves as special adviser to the governor on South-South Affairs, for his leadership role and coordination of members.

Highlighting some achievements of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration, Omodara listed ongoing projects including the proposed international airport, an international market, and the construction of 10-kilometre roads in each of the 21 local government areas of the state, among others.
