Kano state Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Resources, Hamza Safiyanu, Wednesday stated that efforts are underway to make Kano a major hub for tin mining in Nigeria.
He stated this while responding to questions from Blueprint Newspaper in Kano on the achievements of the newly created ministry by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He stated that the ministry is of a regulatory status to establish policies and create an enabling environment for mining in the state.
The commissioner also stated that Kano is endowed with various solid minerals both metallic and none metallic which require policies for the proper management of the sector.
Some of these minerals include tin, columbite and other metals as well as silica sand and limestone.
“We want Kano to be the major hub for exporting tin because it is the best tin in Nigeria. So we are going to make Kano one of the main hubs for exporting tin in Nigeria.
“In the mean time, we are able to achieve a lot as more and more investors are coming in, doing their survey, and paper work and other things like that,” the commissioner stated.
He said the state governor saw the need to create a solid minerals ministry that will make policy and regulate the industry, in order to find enabling environment for investors and job opportunities for citizens.
