The Senator representing Kano South senatorial zone, Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, has highlighted his achievements since he came to office, listing his major contributions in various sectors of the economy.

He stated these while responding to questions from members of the Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists in Kano on Sunday.

However, the Senator explained that the major challenge he had faced as a legislator was the lack of functional oversight in the system.

Sumaila added that the National Assembly would function better when the aspect of oversight functions was perfectly handled.

He, however, blamed the media for not engaging in investigative reporting and holding politicians to account based on what they had promised their people.

He called on the local radio houses, in Kano in particular, to live up to their professional standards and to avoid engaging in character assassination and slander against individuals for political purposes.

The Senator who represents 16 local government areas of Kano state, stated that he had made promises to the people that led to his election and wanted the people to come out and inspect them to confirm what he had achieved since 2023.

“On the 10th of October 2022, I stood before the good people of Kano South senatorial district at the Central Hotel, and made a solemn commitment and outlined my clear agenda of legislative interest centered on social justice.

“This is with a strong focus on education, health, water for irrigation and agriculture.

“I listened to the voice of the voiceless. Today is the 4th of October, 2026, I am back before you again, just six days to the same date I made the promises” he stated.

He called on everyone, especially the media to confirm his statistics as regards his role in security provision, human development, agriculture, health delivery as well as bills that had seen the light of the day.
